Redesigning an existing game is a great way to teach about the elements of a game.
- Starting with a simple game often works best. Tic-tac-toe and the card game “War” are two favorites for this activity.
- Identify as many of the game rules as you can.
- Pick one rule and change it.
- Test out the new game. What worked well? What didn’t? Was it fun?
- What further changes could you make to improve the game?
