Programming Your Turtle To Move
The first step in coding your Turtle to move is to open your Turtle’s visual program editor. Click New Program under My Library and give your program a name. Next you can drag and drop blocks of code from the top right into the Visual Editor. Code in the Visual Editor is read just like a book - from left to right and from top to bottom.
You will need to use 6 new commands to complete today’s challenges:
Move Forward: Moves your Turtle 1 block forward. Note: Your Turtle will always move forward in the direction it is facing.
Move Back: Moves your Turtle 1 block back.
Turn Right: Your Turtle turns to the right. It will stay on the same block.
Turn Left: Your Turtle turns to the left. It will stay on the same block.
Move Up: Moves your Turtle 1 block upwards.
Move Down. Moves your Turtle 1 block downwards.
Mazes and Obstacles
In today’s session you will face 4 different types of challenge. In each challenge you will place your Turtle on the yellow block and code your Turtle to move to the green block.
Turtle Movement Laboratory: Our most basic course. If you need help using your Turtle remote or providing basic instructions to your Turtle this is the place to get it.
Turtle Maze Challenge: There are 10 different mazes in the Turtle Maze Challenge. #1 is the easiest and #10 is the hardest. Professor Sheldon recommends that each new Turtle tamer should help their Turtles solve at least 3 mazes.
Turtle Obstacle Course: There are 10 different obstacles courses. Many of them have multiple possible solutions. #1 is the easiest and #10 is the hardest. Professor Sheldon recommends that each new Turtle tamer should help their Turtles solve at least 3 obstacle courses.
Obstacle Maker Challenge: In the Obstacle Maker Challenge you can make your own obstacle course. Invite others to try out your course and see if you can complete theirs!
